Foremore: North Zone Diamond Drilling and Channel Sample Results

 #12-03

Vancouver, British Columbia, October 6, 2003: Roca Mines Inc. ("Roca") announces the latest assay results from the Phase I exploration diamond drilling and trenching program at the BRT Showing area, located in the central portion of the North Zone, at its Foremore Project in northwestern British Columbia. The Company is now in receipt of assay results for drill holes FM03-05, 06, 07, 08, 09, 10 and 11 and saw-cut Channels BRT-01, 02 and 03. Please see the attached map for locations of samples and drill holes.

On September 2, 2003 Roca announced the intersection of volcanogenic-massive-sulphide ("VMS") mineralization in drill holes at the North Zone (ROK #10-03). The core samples intersected a felsic tuff unit up to 41m thick that hosts the newly discovered sulphide horizon, interpreted to be a pyrite-sericite-phyllite unit within a larger felsic package (ROK #11-03). The unit comprises primarily pyritic sulphides and although minor base metal sulphides were observed, no economically significant base metal intervals were encountered.

Despite the overall low tenor of the base metal assays from the initial exploratory drill program, several higher grade precious metal intervals were unexpectedly intersected within the new sulphide horizon. The higher precious-to-base-metal ratio encountered is important because of its association to the outcropping BRT massive sulphides. The identification of this new banded and deformed semi-massive pyritic zone may infer metal-zonation and proximity to a larger VMS target. A broad thickening of the entire felsic unit observed in the drill holes to the northeast provides compelling targets for the next phase of exploration drilling at the BRT portion of the North Zone.

The Phase I exploration drill program has significantly advanced the geological understanding in immediate proximity to the BRT Showing area. The horizon that hosts the BRT has now been traced over a 2.5km long strike length and observations suggest that this subcropping horizon could host several VMS occurrences, or sources of the North Boulder Field (NBF). The NBF includes several discrete areas of VMS mineralized boulders covering approximately 1,500m in total length. Exploration drill targets for other parts of the favourable horizon are currently being refined based on recent prospecting, mapping and sampling.

Diamond drill holes FM03-05, 06, and 07 were drilled to undercut the predicted extension of the sulphide horizon southwest of the BRT discovery showing. The holes intersected the banded pyritic felsic metavolcanics unit (ROK #10-03) between 10m and 32m thick.

Drill holes FM03-08 and 09 were drilled to test the target horizon from a collar location approximately 100m south of the BRT showing. Drill hole FM03-08 did not intersect any significant mineralization while FM03-09 cut a narrow interval of gold mineralization as summarized below.

The initial drill program also investigated the possibility of a northeast extension of the BRT Showing in drill holes FM03-10 and 11 and also intersected the host pyritic felsic metavolcanics unit.

Additional work is planned to target extensions of the gold-rich sulphide portion of the pyritic sulphide felsic metavolcanics, in addition to testing the other drill targets on the VMS horizon at the North Zone based on the encouraging results of the Phase I program. A Phase II exploration drill program is planned for October-November 2003, to continue in the summer of 2004.

The Company has also received final assay results for three saw cut channel samples and one chip sample taken across four exposures of the BRT Showing. Weighted average assays are provided in the table below. Channels BRT-01 and 02 included predominantly massive sulphides. Channel BRT-03 is a composite channel sample taken 30m to the southwest and cut through mainly quartz veined phyllite and lesser amounts of massive sulphide. The estimated true width of the interval taken at Channel BRT-03 is approximately 2.5m. The chip sample was taken across 4m of pyritic quartz sericite phyllite.

All assaying was carried out by ACME Analytical Laboratories of Vancouver BC. Sampling and core logging was conducted under the supervision of Mr. W.A. (Sandy) Sears, P.Geo., a qualified person under NI 43-101.

Roca crews are continuing to prospect and sample at a number of new targets on the 205 sq.km. Foremore Project area. Results and assays from all aspects of the Company's exploration program will be reported as they are received.
